Introducing the Learner Record
The Learner Record is a unique approach to the assessment of NVQ candidates regardless of sector or level. It is a simple streamlined yet highly effective recording of all aspects of the assessment process from first contact with a potential learner to the completion of the qualification and subsequent certification. The concept provides clearly for the chronological record of all activity with a candidate and provides a very clear audit trail.
The Learner Record focuses on the skills of the assessor to be able to free type or hand write as they require, rather than complete any form of pre formatted checklist type document that all too often restricts the assessor.
The demands of assessment are captured in the A1 unit, however no where does it specify how assessment should or can be recorded. The simple truth is that you have to have evidence to prove the candidate competent and to provide an audit trail for future verification, audit or inspection. The Learner Record is stored either electronically on a PC or a shared server under the name of the candidate (this is a simple means of using technology to store evidence) or can be stored in more traditional ways if the assessor wishes to hand write. Each page is numbered and during the course of the qualification the number of pages increases to reflect the activity.
"This is an assessment on myself for L10. I would add at this stage that a unit by unit approach to assessment is bad practice but whilst this was a very real assessment occasion and subject to the demands of the assessment strategy for Learning and Development it was a singular unit for the purposes of demonstrating the use of the Learner Record."
